Meet The Team: Rebecca Taylor - Director of Teaching School Hub

In the latest issue, we spoke to Rebecca Taylor, Director of The Three Rivers Teaching School Hub

What does your role at 3RTSH involve?

I am currently Teaching School Hub Director after King Edward VI School was designated as a centre of excellence in 2021. Within this role I oversee the strategic development and direction of The Three Rivers Teaching School Hub; coordinating teacher recruitment, development and retention across NE1; Newcastle, North Tyneside and Northumberland.

What advice would you give someone looking to get into teaching?

It may sound cliche, but there is a real sense of making a difference when you become a teacher. You have the opportunity to inspire, motivate, and encourage students to reach their potential. I am often astounded by the performance of my students in their careers, to see their outcomes makes everything we do worthwhile.

What led you to your current role?

Prior to this role, I worked in senior leadership across King Edward VI School and Chantry Middle School. My passion is teaching and I am committed to educational excellence in order to do the very best for every child.

What skills would you say are essential for teachers?

First and foremost it’s essential for teachers to be invested in every pupil they teach. They should care about each pupil as an individual, finding out what they like and what motivates them. Beyond this, deep subject knowledge of the topic taught, good communication skills and an excellent ability to organise, with a commitment to continuous learning and development are key attributes.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Within my current role, we focus on the delivery of the ‘Golden thread of teacher development’. Seeing the progress made by teachers as a result of the professional development journey they have experienced through the Hub is most rewarding.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

Outside of work, my time is dedicated to a variety of activities that keep me engaged and fulfilled. A significant part of my routine involves caring for my children, who are actively involved in sports and extracurricular activities, including football and horse riding.
